This is a two-day retreat (Saturday is short and optional) at a private home in the lovely West Hills area , sponsored by the teachers at Mindful Valley and Mindful Business Institute.
The goal of this retreat is to send the blessings and merits of our practice to the teachers and monastics at the Abhayagiri Monastery, who give so much to the world with their wisdom, compassion and selflessness.
We will set Three Goals for 2012 in a clear and peaceful mental space.
Additionally, this retreat will facilitate the understanding of Mindfulness during work/chore hours as well as during formal meditation. The first day, Saturday, January 7th, will be spent practicing work meditation in preparation for the day-long mindfulness meditation on Sunday the 8th. (it is optional)
The retreat is open to all and FREE of Charge. However, because space is limited to a maximum of 25, many people will have to be turned away. We ask that participants pay a $20 non-refundable deposit to assure attendance.
On Saturday there are three work periods of three hours each. We ask attendees to sign up for only one of the work periods then attend theSunday Day-Long Retreat. The work period includes cooking, cleaning, light yard work and other set up in preparation for the Sunday daylong retreat.
Each three hour work period starts with a half-hour meditation and instructions for two and half hour mindful work period. Participants will be assigned work according to their interests and capabilities and will receive instructions for their work period. Work periods are not a requirement for attending the full-day retreat on Sunday. They are added opportunities to enhance your mindfulness practice in a different context.
Participants may stay for longer work periods or leave and return at 10:30AM on Sunday, for a full day of sitting,walking and mindful eating meditation in addition to teachings, discussion and guidance about how to enhance one’s practice. Light lunch and refreshments will be served.
